Songs include:
Magic Spell is a song I wrote in 1974. I love the simplicity of the
melody. Ethereal was one of my first pieces ever written at age
17. It was my first experimentation with jazz chords and breaking the tradition
of the 8 bar phrase. Remember Love is one of my personal favorites. This song just flowed
through me when I composed it.It was recorded as a duet with lyrics on an album
of the same title on CBS Records. Searching is an instrumental jazz ballad or can be played with a latin
type feel. It has a haunting melody. New England has been recorded several times. Like Magic Spell, I love
the simplicity of the melody. Lennie Revisited is an improvisation based on the standard
"Almost Like Being In Love". It is a tribute to one of my greatest
teachers, Lennie Tristano. Lennie was a phenomenal improviser and a true jazz
innovator. Reflections is the title track on an album of the same name which was
recorded as a duet with Jim Walker, the renowned flutist, and myself on piano in
1979. I'm very fond of the harmonies. Age of God is my rhythmical tribute to the New Age. If played with a
good groove and steady pulse the repetitive aspect of the tune takes on a kind
of hypnotic trance.
All in all, these tunes represent a period of my life when I "felt"
these types of melodies. Each one has been close to my heart at different times
and I loved writing them. Composing inspired melodies only "comes
when it comes". I find I have no control over the process. I also like the
"not knowing" magical gift that emerges. It is as if all my previous
hard work gets rewarded with these little blessing. I hope you enjoy playing
them.
